About the "AI Status"

AI status: Entirely human written and edited.

If you’re reading this, you likely noticed the “AI Status” widget. It was inspired by things like the “epistimic status” blubs popularized on sites like lesswrong, slatestarcodex, and gwern.

You have my promise that this is honest at all times.

If an LLM generated an artifact, you deserve to be made aware of that. But that’s entirely too vague a place to stop. It matters to me what happened next. Because it’s one thing to use a computer to riff, or draft, and then labor over every word with your own touch, ensuring that they move in the mouth with a cadence, like a song.

It is another thing entirely to glance flippantly at a moving console, shrug with your thumbs a bit, and hurl trash into the orifices of strangers. I think most of the people who do that should, most of the time, go fuck themselves.

As a general rule

You will be well served by the assumption that writing is from a human with zero LLM input, and software is from an LLM with significant human input.

About the site theme

Gen’d by various frontier models, with constant and significant human oversight, by a person who knows how websites work, based on an eleventy theme I wrote by hand in the before-times. I have personally used every link and feature on this website at length. Mostly in firefox. Bug reports welcome.

Wet paint

It’s likely this small disclaimer will be insufficient, and evolve over time. Either there is nothing to disclaim, or a post’s worth of process and processing, with little in between. I’m not sure how to effectively convey that process, and one reason for that section is so that I have to grapple with how to do that.

It’s too soon to tell. But count on one thing: I will tell 1.

    I finished writing the body and then spent a moment editing down the logfiles by hand, even though I would absolutely use an LLM for this in most cases, just so I wouldn’t have to asterisk that status.
